Artist Spotlight: Blurrd Vzn

On this weeks artists spotlight were going to be looking at the up and coming producer duo Blurrd Vzn from San Diego. The duo really started to catch steam and nationwide notoriety over the course of the past two years during the pandemic, which is pretty absurd to think about since there were no shows or concerts for the relatively unknown duo at the time to perform at to build up their fanbase. They started to pick up steam the “old fashion” way by dropping music on their soundcloud, and once you listen tk it makes sense as to why they’re one of the biggest names to look out for in the scene. Their mixtape series the Blurry Tapes, which there are 4 of at time of writing, is some of the best mixtapes I’ve heard in the past few years. their sound production is unmatched, and the way they’re able to mix in nearly every sub-genre of bass music from riddim to wook bass so easily and flawlessly leaves fans of theirs hyped to see what the young duo can accomplish in the future. The duo is also beginning to catch the eyes of some of the biggest names in the industry as theyve released music on legend within the industry, Excision’s record label subsidia. Theyve also had another large act in ATLIENS, play some of their songs at their shows as well. the san diego duo are definitely a group to look out for and see their careers grow over the next few years.

How Excison is changing the future of music festivals

Jeff able, better known by his stage name Excision, is an edm producer changing the game for independent artists to create new revenue streams for themselves. Apart from being an independent artists with his own record label subsidia, excision is a businessman changing the music festival game for artists.

As of right now the producer has 3 of his own self run and funded music festivals. He has one in Ohio for the east coast and Midwest fan base called lost lands, which is a dinasour themed festival. He has another festival named bass cannon for the west coast and mountain time fanbase called bass cannon in Washington. And recently he just added a new festival which will be at an all inclusive resort in Cancun, Mexico.

One of the big differences between this and other artists such as Tyler the creator who has his own festival as well, these festivals not only have his friends as some of the headlining acts at the show, but also the biggest names in his genre. These festivals are also amongst the most hyped up edm festivals of the year in the US and attract crowds of nearly 30,000 bassheads.

Lost Lands 2021 Preview

The leaves are starting to change color, days are getting shorter, there’s a slight breeze nearly every day, and you all know what that means, Lost Lands is almost here. Lost Lands for those who don’t know is the largest dubstep festival of the year, put on by legendary producer and artists Exiscion, outside of Columbus at Legend Valley in Ohio. This year’s lineup looks to be the best one I’ve ever seen, in this blog will go through what sets are an absolute must to go to.

The main stage lineup is full of OGs and producers who are well known throughout the EDM world such as Barely Alive, Modstep, Virtual Riot, etc. But there’s one set/artist on here that stands out the most is Svdden Death presents Voyd. Svdden Death right now is by far my favorite producer in the game right now, everything from his music to his energy on stage is the stuff that legends are made out of. At this show, he is going into his alter ego Voyd, where he’ll be dropping some of the heaviest music at the festival that’ll get the crowd going. Svdden Death always puts on a great show, but when its a voyd set you to know the visuals on screen are about to be insane, and with the creative freedom to design his set at lost lands, it may be crazier than one he put on at the Caverns in Tennesse where he levitated mid-set. Another artist I’d highly recommend trying to get to the front of the barricade for would be Atliens, the Atlanta duo is regulars at this festival and always know how to put on a good show, with their wonky bass and experimental sound. Mauruads like Svdden Death is also a great heavy act to see, recently at webster hall gave NYC crowd the hype it deserves by stopping the show midset because the rail up front had been broken. This year were also getting a special appearance from the man, the myth, the legend, that is Shaquille O’Neal, who will be on the main stage this year; it’s not every day you get see Shaq throw it down, his music may not be the best but at least you get to say you saw Shaq. Some other big names I’d recommend going to see would be HE$H, Lucci, Subtronics, Minnesota, 12th PLanet, Slander, and Sullivan King.

There are also a lot of great up-and-coming artists this year as well who aren’t on the main stage. New Jersey’s finest Layz, is the one I’d recommend the most, she’s recently popped onto the scene into the mainstream from her releases on Excision’s Subsidia Records, and knows how to throw down a heavy set. Another act I’d highly recommend is Blurrd Vzn, the mixtape series they’ve released on Soundcloud, the Blurry Tapes 1-4, have been some of the best music I’ve listened to this year. The duo from San Diego is up next and is an act to look out for the next few years. Calcium and Bandelz, I have no idea why they’re not on the main stage but are also great acts to go and see, and you’ll be more likely to be in a great spot in the crowd as well.

And of course, I recommend going to see all three of Excision’s sets across this weekend, the man is a god. I’ve never gone to one of his shows and have ever been disappointed, and the man always goes his hardest at Lost Lands.

HE$H Burnermix VOL. 4

The up and coming Dallas Producer, HE$H, recently dropped his long awaited part 4 of his annual mixtape series the Burnermixes. As usual HE$H didn’t disappoint in the slightest, with enjoyable mixing for the whole 30 minutes of the mixtape. The mix gives you that typical HE$H sound that a lot of has have grown accustomed too since he burst onto the scene as a young teenager, with hard in your face drops, and his southern hip-hop inspired sound, as well as new experimental sounds that show signs of his further growth as a producer. It was chalk full of brand new ID’s that’ll likely be played all year long during his FSR tour with his co-record lable owner, Bommer. This mix was also dropped at the perfect time with Lost Lands right around and the corner and him Bommer’s country wide tour starting next month, and with him headlining Lost Lands next week as well. If you’re living in the NYC area and are looking to go to a show this winter I’d highly recommend going to him and Bommer’s stop in NYC for the tour at Webster Hall.
